Why choose a Stories with Starlight book?
Why choose a Stories with Starlight book?
What makes it different from other children’s books?
Stories with Starlight was created by Australian teacher and author Lisa Mackenzie as a heartfelt response to what she saw missing in children’s lives — a sense of wonder.
Unlike commercial fairy tales filled with glitter and perfection, Starlight is a star-being fairy who is gentle, grounded, and relatable. She’s not a Disney princess. She’s not here to be saved. She’s here to remind children of the magic that already lives inside them.
Lisa first imagined Starlight as a kind friend for children — someone magical, but real enough to be part of their everyday world. After teaching in a Steiner Kindergarten in New Zealand, she experienced firsthand the power of storytelling, rhythm, nature, and reverence in early childhood. Steiner children were free to be imaginative and joyful, deeply connected to nature and the seasons.
When Lisa returned to teaching in mainstream Australian schools, she noticed a growing gap. The magic and wonder had been replaced by overstimulation, rushed routines, and academic pressure. Children weren’t just losing interest in reading — they were losing connection to their inner light.
That’s when Stories with Starlight became a mission:
To bridge the magical and the mainstream.
Each book is designed to bring soft enchantment into the everyday, offering children a pause in a busy world — a place to feel seen, loved, and inspired to care for the Earth and each other.
What makes the Starlight books different?
Not a commercial fairy — Starlight is a humble star-being who gently guides, never preaches.
Relatable magic — Magic is woven into real-life situations kids understand: making friends, helping others, and being kind to the planet.
Inspired by Steiner education — The books echo a rhythm and reverence found in nature-based education.
Perfect for all children — Especially those who are imaginative, sensitive, neurodivergent, or in need of a gentle friend.
A bridge — Between fantasy and real life, between heart and head, between mainstream and magic.
A note from Lisa
“I wrote these books because I believe in the magic of childhood. Starlight and her little blue hen Bridget help children remember that their kindness, joy, and imagination are powerful — and needed.”
